The First General Letter of John in the Tyndale21 Version of the Holy Bible (© Copyright 2011 Abbott ePublishing. If any man sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, who is righteous, 2:2 And it is he who obtains grace for our sins, and not only for our sins, but also for the sins of all the world. 2:3 And by this we are sure that we know him: if we keep his commandments. 2:4 He who says, I know him, and does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 2:5 Whoever keeps his word, in him is the love of God perfected in deed. And by that, we know that we are in him. 2:6 He who said he lives in him ought to walk just as he walked. 2:7 Brothers, I write no new commandment to you, but that old commandment, which you heard from the beginning. (2:8) That old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning. Again, a new commandment I write to you, a thing that is true in him and in you: Because the darkness is past, and the true light now shines. 2:9 He who says how he is in the light, and still hates his brother, is in darkness even until now. 2:10 He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion of evil in him 2:11 He who hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and cannot tell where he goes, because that darkness has blinded his eyes. 2:12 Little ones, I write to you, because your sins are forgiven for his name's sake. 2:13 I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who was from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the wicked. I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father. 2:14 I have written to you fathers because you have known him that is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the wicked. 2:15 See that you do not love the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh (and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life) is not from the Father, but is from the world. 2:17 And the world vanishes away, and the lust of it, but he who fulfills the will of God remains forever. 2:18 Little children, it is the last time, and as you have heard how antichrist will come, even now are there many antichrists who have come already. By this, we know that it is the last time. 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not from us. Because if they had been from us, they would no doubt have continued with us. But that happened so they might be appear like they were not from us. 2:20 But you have an ointment from the Holy Spirit, and you know all things. 2:21 I did not write to you because you do not know the truth, but as though you know it and knew also that no lie comes from truth. 2:22 But who is a liar, other than he who denies that Jesus is Christ? He is the antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. 2:23 Whoever denies the Son, he does not have the Father. 2:24 Let therefore remain in you the same that you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning will remain in you, you also will continue in the Son, and in the Father. 2:25 And this is the promise that he has promised us: eternal life. 2:26 I have written you this to you concerning those who deceive you. 2:27 And the anointing that you have received from him lives in you. And you do not need any man teach you, but as the anointing teaches you about all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and as it taught you, remain in him. 2:28 And now, little children, remain in him, so, when he will appear, we may be bold and not be ashamed of him at his coming. 2:29 If you know that he is righteous, know also that he who follows righteousness is born from him. 3:1 Look what love the Father has shown to us, so we would be called the sons of God. For this reason, the world does not know you, because it did not know him. 3:2 Dearly loved ones, now are we the sons of God, and still it does not appear what we will be. But we know that when it will appear, we will be like him, because we will see him as he is. 3:3 And every man who has this hope in him purges himself, just as he is pure. 3:4 Whoever commits sin commits unrighteousness also, for sin is unrighteousness. 3:5 And you know that he appeared to take away our sins, and in him is no sin. 3:6 Whoever remains in him does not sin, whoever sins has not seen him, nor has known him. 3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you. He who does righteousness is righteous, just as he is righteous. 3:8 He who commits sin is of the Devil because the devil sinned since the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God appeared, to destroy the works of the Devil. 3:9 Whoever is born from God does not commit sin, because his seed remains in him, and he cannot sin, because he is born from God. 3:10 In this the children of God are known, and the children of the Devil. Whoever does not do righteousness is not from God, nor is he who does not love his brother. 3:11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 3:12 Not as Cain, who was from the wicked, and killed his brother. And why did he kill him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s good. 3:13 Do not be amazed, my brothers, if the world hates you. 3:14 We know that we are translated from death to life, because we love the brothers. He who does not love his brother remains in death. 3:15 Whoever hates his brother is a manslayer. And you know that no manslayer has eternal life remaining in him. 3:16 By this, we understand the love of God: that he gave his life for us, and therefore, we also ought to give our lives for the brothers. 3:17 Whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother have need, and closes off his compassion from him, how does the love of God live in him? 3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but with deed and in truth. 3:19 And by this we know that we are of the truth, and can in front of him quiet our hearts. 3:20 But if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our hearts, and knows all things. 3:21 Dearly loved ones, if our hearts do not condemn, then have we confidence toward God. 3:22 And whatever we ask, we will receive from him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave as a commandment. 3:24 And he who keeps his commandments lives in him, and he in him. And by this we know that he remains in us: by the Spirit that he gave us. 4:1 You dearly loved ones, do not believe every spirit, but prove the spirits as to whether they are from God. Because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 4:2 By this shall you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 4:3 And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not from God, and this is the spirit of antichrist of which you have heard that would come, and even now already he is in the world. 4:4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world. 4:5 They are from the world, and therefore speak they about the world, and the world hears them. 4:6 We are from God. He who knows God hears us, he who is not from God does not hear us. By this, we know the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. 4:7 Dearly loved ones, let us love one another, because love is from God. And everyone who loves is born from God, and knows God. 4:8 He who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 4:9 In this appeared the love of God toward us, because God sent his only begotten Son into the world, so we might live through him. 4:10 In this is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to make agreement for our sins. 4:11 Dearly loved ones, if God loved us, we also ought to love one another. 4:12 No man has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfect in us. 4:13 By this we know that we live in him, and he in us, because he has given to us from his Spirit. 4:14 And we have seen and testify that the Father sent the Son, who is the Savior of the world. 4:15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, in him remains God, and he, in God. 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God has to us. God is love, and he who lives in love lives in God, and God in him. 4:17 In this is the love, perfect in us, so we would have confidence on the day of judgment. Because as he is, so are we in this world. 4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love throws out fear, because fear has painfulness. He who fears is not perfect in love. 4:19 We love him, because he loved us first. 4:20 If a man says, I love God, and still hates his brother, he is a liar. Because how can he who does not loves his brother, whom he has seen, love God, whom he has not seen? 4:21 And this commandment we have from him, That he who loves God should love his brother, too. 5:1 Whoever believes that Jesus is Christ is born from God. And everyone who loves him who gave birth to him, love who was born from him, too. 5:2 In this we know that we love the children of God: When we love God and keep his commandments. 5:3 This is the love of God: That we keep his commandments, and his commandments are not grievous. 5:4 For whatever is born from God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that overcomes the world: our faith. 5:5 Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? 5:6 This Jesus Christ is he who came by water and blood, not only by water, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that gives testimony, because the Spirit is truth. 5:7 (Because there are three that give testimony in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit: and these three are one.) 5:8 And there are three that testify on earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three are one. 5:9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony from God is greater. Because this is the testimony from God: that he has testified about his Son. 5:10 He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who not believe in God has made him a liar, because he does not believe the testimony that God gave about his Son. 5:11 And this is the testimony: God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 5:12 He who has the Son has life, and he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 5:13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so you may know that you have eternal life, and so you may believe in the name of the Son of God. 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us, 5:15 And if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we will have the petitions that we desired of him. 5:16 If any man sees his brother sin a sin that is not deadly, he will ask, and he will give him life for those who sin not to death. There is a deadly sin for which I do not say that a man should pray. 5:17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin that is not deadly. 5:18 We know that whoever is born from God does not sin, but he who is born from God keeps himself (sinless) and that wicked one does not touch him. 5:19 And we know that we are from God, and the world is altogether set on wickedness. 5:20 We know that the Son of God has come, and has given us a mind to know him, who is true, and we are in him who is true through his son, Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. 5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
