Because what was conceived in her was done by the Holy Spirit. 1:21 And she will have a son, and you will name him JESUS: for he will save his people from their sins. 1:22 Now all this was done so it might be fulfilled that which was spoken by the Lord to the Prophet, saying, 1:23 Look: A virgin will become pregnant, and will give birth to a son, and they will name him, Emmanuel, which means: God with us. 1:24 Then Joseph woke up and did as the angel of the Lord had asked of him, and took her as his wife. 1:25 And was not with her as a husband until she had given birth to her first son: and he called him JESUS. 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judaea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, 2:2 Saying, Where is he who was born King of the Jews? We have seen his star in the east, and have come to worship him. 2:3 When Herod, the king, had heard these things, he was troubled, and all of Jerusalem with him. 2:4 And he gathered all the chief priests and Scribes of the people together, and asked them where Christ would be born. 2:5 And they said to him, In Bethlehem of Judaea, because it was in this way written by the Prophet: 2:6 And you Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are not the least among the princes of Judah, because out of you will come a leader who will govern my people Israel. 2:7 Then Herod privately called the wise men, and carefully asked them what time the star had appeared. 2:8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search carefully for the child, and when you find him, bring me word again, so that I may come and worship him, too. 2:9 When they heard the king, they left; and the star, which they saw in the east, went in front of them, until it came to rest over where the child was. 2:10 When they saw the star, they were amazingly happy, 2:11 And went into the house, and found the child with Mary, his mother. And they knelt down and worshiped him and opened their treasures and offered to him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 2:12 And after they were warned by God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they returned to their country another way. 2:13 And when they had gone, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Get up, and take the child and his mother, and escape into Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word, because Herod will seek out the child, in order to destroy him. 2:14 When he got up, he took the young child and his mother by night, and went into Egypt, 2:15 And was there until the death of Herod, to fulfill what was said by the Lord to the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. 2:16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was being mocked by the wise men, was very angry, and caused all the children aged two years old and under that were in Bethlehem and in all its districts to be killed, based on the time he had learned from the wise men. 2:17 Then it was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the Prophet, saying, 2:18 In the hills was a voice heard mourning, weeping and great anguish. Rachel, weeping for her children would not be comforted, because they are not. 2:19 But when Herod was dead, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, 2:20 Saying, Get up, and take the child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, because he who sought the child’s life is dead. 2:21 Then he got up and took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel. 2:22 But when he heard that Archelaus reigned in Judaea in the place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. But, being warned by God in a dream, he turned away into the districts of Galilee, 2:23 And went to live in a city called Nazareth, to fulfill what was said by the Prophets: He will be called a Nazarene. 3:1 In those days John the Baptist was preaching in the desert in Judaea, 3:2 And saying, Repent: because the kingdom of heaven is close. 3:3 Because this is he of whom Prophet Isaiah spoke, saying: The voice of a shouter in the desert: Make ready the highway of the Lord, and make his paths straight. 3:4 And this John wore clothes made of camel's hair, and a leather belt around his waist; and he ate locusts and wild honey. 3:5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region Jordan, 3:6 And they were baptized by him in Jordan River, confessing their sins. 3:7 But when he saw that many of the Pharisees and Sadducees had come out to his baptism, he said to them, Oh, generation of snakes, who warned you to run from the anger to come? 3:8 Therefore, produce fruits worthy of repentance, 3:9 And do not think of saying to yourselves, We have Abraham as our father. Because I say: God is able to raise up children to Abraham out of these stones. 3:10 Even now, the ax is swung at the root of the trees, so every tree that does not produce is cut down and thrown into the fire. 3:11 I baptize with water as a sign of repentance, but he who comes after me is greater than I, and whose shoes I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire, 3:12 Who also has his winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clean his floor and gather his wheat into the barn; and he will burn up the husks with a fire that may not be quenched. 3:13 Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to John, to be baptized by him. 3:14 But John did not let him, saying, I should be baptized by you, and you come to me? 3:15 But Jesus answered, Allow it to be so now, because in this way it helps us to fulfill all righteousness. Then he allowed him. 3:16 And Jesus, as soon as he was baptized, came up immediately out of the water, and, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and land on him, 3:17 And Look: A voice came from heaven, saying, This is my dearly loved Son, in whom I am very pleased. 4:1 Then Jesus was led up by the spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 4:2 And after he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 4:3 Then the tempter came and said, If you are the Son of God, command that these stones be made into bread. 4:4 But he answered, It is written, Man will not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. 4:5 Then the devil took him up into the holy city, and set him on the very top of the temple, 4:6 And he said to him, If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down: for it is written, He will give his angels control over you, and with their hands they will raise you up, so your feet will not strike against the stones. 4:7 Jesus said to him, It is written again, You will not tempt the Lord your God. 4:8 Again, the devil took him up into a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 4:9 And he said to him, All these things I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me. 4:10 Then Jesus said to him, Get away from me, Satan! Because it is written, You will worship the Lord your God, and you will serve only him. 4:11 Then the devil left him, and, and angels came and ministered to him. 4:12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been thrown into prison, he left for Galilee; 4:13 And leaving Nazareth, he stayed in Capernaum, which is on the seacoast, within the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim, 4:14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, 4:15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; 4:16 The people who sat in darkness saw a great light, and on those who sat in the region and shadow of death, light has begun to shine. 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, saying: Repent, because the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 4:18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, throwing a net into the sea, because they were fishermen. 4:19 And he said to them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. 4:20 And they immediately left their nets and followed him. 4:21 And going on from there, he saw other two brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a boat with Zebedee, their father, mending their nets; and he called to them. 4:22 And they immediately left the boat and their father, and followed him. 4:23 And Jesus went all around Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the Good News of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and diseases among the people. 4:24 And his fame spread all throughout Syria, and they brought to him all sick people who had various diseases and torments, and those who were possessed by demons, and those which were lunatics, and those who were paralyzed. And he healed them. 4:25 And a great number of people followed him, those from Galilee, from Decapolis, from Jerusalem, and Judaea, and from beyond the Jordan. 5:1 When he saw the people, he went up onto a hill. And when he was seated, his disciples came to him. 5:2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying, 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, because theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, because they will be comforted. 5:5 Blessed are the meek, because they will inherit the earth. 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, because they will be filled. 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, because they will obtain mercy. 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, because they will see God. 5:9 Blessed are the maintainers of peace, because they will be called the children of God. 5:10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, because theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 5:11 Blessed are you, when men insult you, and pursue you, and say all kinds of evil things against you falsely, for my sake. 5:12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great, and this is the way they persecuted the prophets before your time. 5:13 You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt has lost its flavor, with what can it be seasoned? It is afterwards good for nothing, except to be thrown out and walked on. 5:14 You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 5:15 Neither do men light a candle, and then put it under a bushel basket, but instead, they put it on a candlestick; and it gives light to all who are in the house. 5:16 Let your light shine this way in front of others, so they may see your good works, and glorify your Father, who is in heaven. 5:17 Do not think I have come to destroy the Law or the Prophets: I have not come to destroy them, but to fulfill them. 5:18 Because truly I say to you, Until heaven and earth passes away, one stroke or one pronunciation mark will in no way change in the Law, until all is fulfilled. 5:19 Whoever breaks one of the smallest commandments, and teaches men to do so, he will be called the smallest in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever does and teaches them, they will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 5:20 For I say to you, That unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the Scribes and Pharisees, you cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven. 5:21 You have heard that it was said by those in ancient times, You will not kill, and whoever kills will be in danger of judgment. 5:22 But I say to you, Whoever is angry with his brother will be in danger of judgment: and whoever says to his brother, Idiot! will be in danger of the Council. But whoever says, You fool! will be in danger of the fires of hell. 5:23 Therefore when you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you; 5:24 Leave your gift there at the altar, and go away first to be reconciled to your brother, and then come back and offer your gift. 5:25 Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are on the road with him, in case at any time that adversary deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and then you will be thrown into prison. 5:26 Truly I say to you, You will not come out of prison until you have paid the last penny. 5:27 You have heard that it was said by those in ancient times, You will not commit adultery: 5:28 But I say that whoever looks on a woman, lusting after her, has committed adultery with her already in his heart. 5:29 So if your right eye makes you sin, rip it out, and throw it away from you. It is better for you that one of your body parts should die, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 5:30 Also, if your right hand makes you sin, cut it off, and throw it away from you. It is better for you that one of your body parts should die, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 5:31 It is said: Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce. 5:32 But I say: Whoever divorces his wife, unless it is because of fornication, causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries she who is divorced commits adultery. 5:33 Again, you have heard that it was said by those in ancient times, You will not falsely swear, but you will perform your oaths to God. 5:34 But I say to you, Do not swear at all, neither by heaven, because it is God's throne, 5:35 Nor by the earth, because it is his footstool; neither by Jerusalem; because it is the city of the great King. 5:36 Neither should you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. 5:37 But let your words should be Yes, yes or No, no. Because whatever is more than that comes from evil. 5:38 You have heard it said, An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth: 5:39 But I say to you: Do not resist wrong; and whoever deals you a blow to the right cheek, turn to him the other. 5:40 And if any man sues you in court and takes away your coat, let him have your overcoat, too. 5:41 And whoever compels you to go a mile, go with him two. 5:42 Give to him who asks of you, and from him who wants to borrow from you, do not turn away. 5:43 You have heard how it was said: You will love your neighbor, and hate your enemy. 5:44 But I say to you: Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who do wrong to you and persecute you, 5:45 So you may be children of your Father who is in heaven, because he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 5:46 For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do this? 5:47 And if you are only friendly to your brothers, what unique thing are you doing? Do not the tax collectors do the same? 5:48 You should, therefore, be perfect, just as your father who is in heaven is perfect.
